| AFA glider lands safely at golf course |

COLORADO SPRINGS — An Air Force Academy TG-15 glider landed safely this afternoon on a golf course near the Garden of the Gods.
The pilot, Cadet 1st Class Kurt Cloutier, landed the aircraft near the western-most hole of the golf course, which was closed.
Academy officials say there were no civilians in the area, and no private property was damaged.
The academy says initial reports are that Cloutier landed the glider, known to civilian aviators as the "Discus," because the weather caused a loss of lift that kept him from returning to the Air Fo...

This year the picnic is Saturday, June 14th, at the Frank Liske Park in Concord. The club will provide pizza/BBQ, ice, cups, and tableware. Upper-class parents are asked to bring a side dish. Appointee parents are asked to bring a 2-ltr drink. We have the shelter from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Allow plenty of driving time since Concord can be a little congested at times. Cadet C2C Ashley Alexander CS/15, is asking for your support in raising funds to build a new Hospital in Zambia. Hoops for Hope, a non-profit organization founded by 13 year old Austin Gutwein, has built a school and a medical testing center which aids in the development of young children in Zambia. His passion and support by great parents allows him to make a difference.
With the support of children all over the United States, Hoops of Hope has raised roughly $300,000 since its founding.

UPDATE on CHORALE - from Bryan Juchter
The choral group from the USAFA has chosen to come to Charlotte as one of
their tour stops. We have previously sent out the location and time (in
Charlotte). Here is the schedule. I (Allison) assume that you can hear
them either Sat night or Sunday morning. While lodging is all taken care of
now, Bryan does request any help in setting up/tearing down - so if you are
able to come a bit early or stay a bit late - it would be appreciated.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – President George Bush will speak at the Air Force Academy spring graduation ceremonies on May 28.
Bush, who also spoke at the academy in 2004, will preside over the graduation of roughly 950 cadets readying for their commencement as second lieutenants.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. in the academy’s Falcon Stadium.
His previous speech, given one day after forming an interim Iraqi government, drew parallels to modern-day terrorist ideology and past threats of communism and Nazism.

Cadets already build and fly their own radio controlled planes for hobby purposes, but Federal Aviation Administration airspace and aircraft weight rules for official flight of unmanned aerial vehicles has stymied the cadets' ability to get advanced piloting experience. Recognition for the Class of 2011 will take place 13-15 March 2008. After the class has been recognized, the cadets are authorized to wear the standard chrome-plated prop and wings device on their flight caps. Cadets who are direct descendents of members of the Army Air Corps, Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP), have a parent with at least 20 years of military service, or if either parent participated in combat as a member of any U.S. military service or if a parent died in the line of duty are authorized to wear the gold prop and wings device.

The sessions for 2008 are 14-15, 21-22 and 28-29 April. These orientations are a Monday-Tuesday program designed to provide the appointees with the opportunity to become acquainted with the mission, operation, facilities, and faculty of the Academy. They will have the occasion to talk to members of the staff as well as the cadets. Monday is a full day of briefings by the senior staff. Late Monday afternoon, each appointee will be assigned an upper class cadet and will sleep in the dorm. CONGRATS MESSAGE IN YEARBOOK
In March, the Cadet Wing Media staff will send to cadets’ home of record an order form for the graduating class’ parents to order congratulatory messages for their cadets in the 2008 yearbook. They also hope to have that form available on the CW Media website or a link on the USAFA Graduation website by March.
Parents’ clubs can order congratulatory messages in the 2008 yearbook by contacting cwmedia@usafa.edu or calling 719-333-4644 in March.

Spring Break begins after LMD( Last Military Duty ) on 20 March and sign in is no later than 7:00 pm on 30 March. LMD will be after noon meal (12:30-ish) or last class or training, whichever comes later. Cadets are advised to make flight departure reservations no earlier than 2 hours after LMD from Colorado Springs Airport or 3 hours out of Denver.
